As the seasons change, so do our needs for a healthy immune system. We all think about germs and viruses. Many families have found taking a daily dose of elderberry syrup to be helpful in keeping those germs at bay. I’m sure you can relate to needing any supplements you choose to be kid-friendly. I’ve struggled with a few different recipes, realizing that the only way my children will take them is by force. That’s the last thing I want to do each morning! After a bit of trial and error, I have a recipe that is tried and true! My most “opinionated eater” is always asking for more!

Ingredients for Elderberry Syrup
You will need:
- 4 cups filtered water
- 1 cup dried organic whole elderberries
- 1/2 cup organic whole cranberries
- an organic cinnamon stick
- 1 whole garlic clove (small to medium)
- 1 inch fresh organic ginger root
- One bag Echinacea Tea (optional)
- Honey or Maple Syrup to taste

Directions for Elderberry Syrup
- Add 4 cups of filtered water to a medium sauce pan.
- Add the elderberries, cinnamon stick, garlic clove, cranberries, ginger root, and echinacea tea bag to the water.
- Bring the ingredients to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and simmer for 15-20 minutes.
- After it has simmered, turn off the heat and allow it to steep for approximately an hour. Feel free to steep until it cools, but an hour is enough time for the ingredients to come together.
- With a fine strainer, strain the liquid from the solid ingredients into a bowl.
- Add honey, maple syrup, or sweetener of your choice.
- Enjoy! For both children and adults, give one tablespoon daily. During an illness, give 1-2 tablespoon 3 times a day.
- It can be served warm or chilled and will last up to a 10 days in the refrigerator.
